With the purposes to increase the efficiency and quality of research works, to stimulate the creative activity of scientists, to encourage the outstanding scientific works and inventions having the important meaning for science and practice, and also for activizing the scientific work of graduate students, in 1991 -- 1992 the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus has accepted the decisions on establishment of the Prizes of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus for the best scientific work, best scientific work of young scientist, and best student's scientific work. Since 1995 to participation in competition of works on awarding the Prizes are invited not only the Academy scientists but also scientific collectives and researchers of all scientific organizations and high schools of the Republic of Belarus.
