Bakhuys Roozeboom Medal

Description

Every four years, the Bakhuys Roozeboom Fund awards a medal to a researcher who has made a significant contribution to phase theory.

A group of scholars established the medal in 1911 in recognition of the work of Prof. H.W. Bakhuys Roozeboom. In 1992, various third parties – including Ms E.C. Bakhuys Roozeboom-Dros, the University of Amsterdam, and the Scheffer Fund (Delft University of Technology) – made donations to the existing Bakhuys Roozeboom Fund.

Phase theory is the science of the phase behaviour of matter under changing circumstances of pressure, temperature and composition. Phase theory can be applied in physical chemistry, physics, metallurgy, geochemistry, and astrophysics.
