Jason A. Hannah Medal

Description

The Jason A. Hannah Medal was established in 1976 by RSC with the generous assistance of Associated Medical Services Incorporated, through its Hannah Institute for the History of Medicine. The medal was established to honour the late President and Managing Director of AMS Inc., Dr. Jason A. Hannah, and to bring recognition to the work of Canadian research in the history of medicine.

The medal is awarded for an important Canadian publication in the history of medicine. In this context, the word “Canadian” refers to the citizenship or residence of the author, or to a content clearly relevant to Canadian medicine and health care. The award is normally made for a book published in the two years preceding its nomination. The bronze medal and a cash amount of $1,500 are offered every year if there is a suitable nomination.

The selection committee consists of five Fellows, two from the Academy of the Arts and Humanities – one from division 1 and one from division 2 (one of whom must be a historian); two from the Academy of Social Sciences – one from each division, and one member from the Life Sciences Division of the Academy of Sciences. Each committee member shall serve for three years and the position of Chair shall rotate yearly among the representatives of the Academies.
