Position

American atmospheric scientist

President of the National Academy of Sciences (U.S.A.).

Prior to this position, Professor Cicerone served as Chancellor of the University of California at Irvine, where he also held the Daniel G. Aldrich Chair in Earth System Science.

Professor Emeritus, Earth System Science
School of Physical Sciences
University of California, Irvine, California, U.S.A.

Thèmes de recherche

Atmospheric Chemistry, climate

- Surface sources and sinks of trace gases that are important for atmospheric chemistry and the global greenhouse effect, including methane, nitrous oxide, methyl bromide, and methyl chloride. Industrial and biological processes that release and/or consume such gases.

- Stable isotope techniques applied to identifying sources and sinks of atmospheric chemicals.

- Mathematical modeling of atmospheric chemical kinetic processes, including processes that control atmospheric ozone and that limit the lifetime of relatively inert gases.

- Public policy relevant to global climate change and pollution issues.
