He is famous for the discovery of Type II superconductors and their magnetic properties (Abrikosov vortex lattice).
Member of the National Academy of
Sciences (USA) and the Russian Academy of Sciences, Foreign Member of the Royal Society of London and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
He was awarded numerous Russian and International Awards (Lenin Prize USSR - 1966, International Fritz London Award - 1972, State Prize USSR - 1982, Landau Prize of the Academy of Sciences USSR - 1989, International John Bardeen Award - 1991).
He has been awarded 2003 Nobel Prize in Physics, with Vitaly L. Ginzburg and Anthony J. Leggett, "for pioneering contributions to the theory of superconductors and superfluids".
