Position

Glaciologist,
Professor of Geosciences at the Pennsylvania State University, United States.

Thèmes de recherche

- Glaciology, ice sheet stability, paleoclimates from ice cores

Dr. Alley's current research interests are with ice sheets and climates, and include the following:
- Interpretation of paleoclimatic records from ice cores
- Abrupt climate changes
- Physical properties of ice cores
- Ice-sheet collapse and sea-level change
- Erosion and sedimentation by ice sheets

Dr. Alley teaches, and conducts research on the climatic records, flow behavior, and sedimentary deposits of large ice sheets, to aid in prediction of future changes in climate and sea level.

Field Experience :
Three seasons in Antarctica
Five seasons in Greenland

Expertise :
Ice-core records of climate change
Mechanisms of abrupt climate changes
Ice-sheet mass-balance and sea-level change
Glacier-bed processes and glacial deposits
Ice physical properties
