Ann Dowling is currently Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of Sidney Sussex College.
She is a consultant to both aerospace and underwater industries.
A member of the Council of the Royal Academy of Engineering and of EPSRC's Technical Opportunities Panel (TOP). She also serves on the DERA Science Board and is a member of the Defence Science Advisory Council.
Professor Dowling's research interests are in the areas of acoustics and vibration, unsteady fluid mechanics and flow instability. Current applications of this research include the modelling and control of instabilities in gas turbine combustors, road-tyre interaction noise, sound/vortex interaction and the vibration of towed underwater structures.
