Thèmes de recherche

Nakanishi's recent research concentrates on the interaction of light with the molecules responsible for vision. These studies are likely to accelerate the development of a treatment for macular degeneration, which affects many elderly people and leads to the loss of sight.

Prix et récompenses

1999 Prestigious Japanese Prize
2003 King Faisal Science Prize

In 1996 the American Chemical Society and the Chemical Society of Japan paid tribute to his many outstanding contributions when they announced the creation of the Nakanishi Prize to recognize "significant work that extends chemical and spectroscopic methods to the study of important biological phenomena."
