Professor of Astrophysics (chair) at Göteborg University and Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden.
General relativity, astrophysics, cosmology, and quantum physics: black holes, quasars, neutron stars, gamma ray bursts, gravitational radiation, quantum gravity and origin of turbulence in accretion discs.
Most of his research deals with the extreme conditions of curvature, compactness, density, temperature and strength of gravitational and magnetic fields that are typical for high energy astronomical objects and that reflect some most fundamental laws of Nature. These extreme conditions cannot be even approached in laboratories on Earth.
