Reg Buckett was noted for his contribution to metallurgical processes in the gold industry in Kalgoorlie. He was both an industry and educational leader and a past president of the Chamber of Minerals and Energy, and the Gold Producers' Association.
The Reg Buckett Prize is awarded to the two students assessed as having presented the best final year project in the Bachelor of Engineering (Mining Engineering) and the Bachelor of Engineering (Metallurgical Engineering) courses at The Curtin University of Technology. Winners receive a certificate, and a plaque featuring The AusIMM medallion at their graduation ceremony. Applications through Curtin University.
